9 complaints isn't very many-I expect many other presenters get more than that every day. The people who did complain are just finding something to complain about because they're unhappy-but the person who said they're happy this debate arose is trying to make a mountain of a molehill-there is no debate-some people are prejudiced and that's just how some people are.

I didn't know you read Philosophy for A-level. This is the most interestin' subject of all as far as I am concerned and in many ways I think journalism is the applied form of philosophy, same as accountancy is sort of the applied form of maths and self-abuse is the applied form of Drama. If I had a word of criticism it would be one that is widely applicable to students which is everything on Planet Maxine appears to be very positive; whereas I tends to find the world a bit more annoying in a great many ways... But this might be just because I am a grumpy old fart. I dunno. But I think the majority of the Great Masses of readers and listeners (The Punters or Paying Customers) are on my side. But I really dunno. There are more questions than answers.. Socrates.

This is a good blog - lots of useful advice for the group as a whole, interesting points for discussion which will lead into story and project ideas. Little and often - it is an exercise in doing some writing and getting in in front of eyeballs frequently. There's nothing better, but you should up the output to something everyday. This is very promising and it is the sort of blog I need to power the WinchesterJournalism site to get a decent national readership and audience for us all, so I am grateful for your efforts. Keep it up and step it up.

News Days are the key days. If you liked that you should join the Alfie group to get more practice like that. I am trying to sort things at Winchester so in the thrid year we do news days two, three times a week - no more "lessons" - and base it all around coaching people in roles on a live newspaper/radio station/website. That's how they do it in journalism colleges in America, and that's what we are trying to get to here. In the meantime you get just as many news days as other undergrads; and probably more than postgads, since you are at it for three years.

But even yesterday you got a taste of it. In football terms it is like after months of dribbling round cones we finally get a chance to play a match.

Hey Journo! Is the pic at the top of your blog some sort of complicated Princess Diana reference. Why otherwise are we stuck in a darkened tunnel with a deadly lump of steel heading towards us. I know it feels like that when I am lecturing, but...

I like to come on a bit Scary Monster at first - especailly with first years - then loosen up when I've found out where we are at, who's up for it etc, what's the best style. It will be better when I get to know y'all on a more individual basis, and me going through everyone's work is a step towards that. What would really help me, by the way, is if people sent a jpeg of themselves, so I can put names to faces.
